“If I am going to stare at my wall, I’d like it to be something that inspires me."
I was sorting through old Harper’s Bazaar magazines at 2 am, as one does.
Since it’s quarantine and I had nothing better to do, I started tearing out pages that I liked to make a collage on my bedroom wall at home.
My criteria for choosing images was comprised of three things: color coordination, mood, and empowered women.
Taking into consideration color coordination and mood of the photo is self-explanatory — you choose what your eye likes. However, I chose to make the entire collage a showcase of a diverse group of women who, in my opinion, were photographed in an empowering position or a position that defied social standards.
The reason for this was because often times magazines and general media portray women in one light and one form, often void of liveliness and personality. I want to see more photos in the fashion industry of women in action, positions of power, and crazy outfits that defy social norms. If I am going to stare at my wall, I’d like it to be something that inspires me.
