Martha

An acrylic piece inspired by Tumblr.

I have been trying to improve my classical art skills; recently I have been more focused on digital art and design and have not worked on my painting skills, especially in facial features, so I thought I would give it a go. I found a screenshot of a Tumblr post from forever ago saved deep in my camera roll and emulated the face (artist is unfortunately unknown and I have sadly not been able to locate it again on Tumblr). I gave it my own twist with the two-toned backdrop, cocktail glasses, and bottle to set the scene.

The additions are meant to make it feel like the viewer is having an intimate dinner. I named the woman Martha, and I do quite enjoy how she stares at me every night before going to bed.

Through painting this piece, I learned more about facial shadows and lighting which I have struggled with in the past. My next acrylic piece I aim to paint a face without any previous reference.
